Ya know that funk? The one where you have a cloud of bad vibes hovering over you and all you want to do is demolish a whole package of Oreos? Instead of finishing off that package that will make you feel “double stuffed”, try nomming on a food that might actually improve your mood. These foods are clinically proven to not only improve your mood, but improve your health too. That’s right dear Bulugans; we’ve compiled a few eating tips that will improve your mood almost instantly.
Increasing your focus, stabilizing your mood and slimming your waistline is as simple as changing up what you eat. According to The Happiness Diet there are 4 simple rules to begin improving your mood.
Rule 1: Reduce your intake of processed foods
Processed foods have tons of sugar that contribute to shrinking key areas in the brain that regulate your mood.
Rule 2: Eat more fruits, veggies & whole grains
We all know by now that eating more plant based foods will increase our intake of vitamins and minerals, leaving our bodies healthy and happy. A happy body equals a happy mind.
Rule 3: Try for grass fed meats
Grass fed meats have more omega 3’s compared to grain fed animals and all those extra omega’s can help improve brain functions, leaving you engaged and focused.
Rule 4: Switch it up!
The greater the range of foods you eat, the more vitamins and nutrients your body is getting, the better you will feel.
Here are a list of foods that will (surprisingly) improve your mood.
Beef– Red meat can up your iron levels, which improves the delivery of oxygen-filled red blood cells to your brain (stick to those grass fed meats and you’ll get the extra omega 3’s).
Eggs– This simple kitchen staple is full of vitamins and minerals that keep us feeling our best, but probably the most important is vitamin B12. If you don’t have enough B12, it can lead to irritability and even depression. Pass the eggs please!
Walnuts– Think about this, these simple nuts have the potential to grow into a giant tree, the amount of nutrients packed into walnuts is insane. One of these is Vitamin E, which helps relieve brain inflammation and protect neurons.
Wild Salmon- This fisherman favorite has one of the highest levels of omega-3 fatty acids, which according to Prevention Magazine, a 2008 study said that fish oil is thought to be as effective as Prozac for treating depression.
Honey– This sweet sticky substance has 181 different bioactive compounds that increase energy production in the brain. No wonder Pooh bear was so happy and giggly all the time! Read more about the benefits of honey in this article.
