We all know that getting a good night sleep is beneficial to our health. It rests our bodies after a stressful day and gets us recharged for the day ahead. But did you know the more you snooze, the slimmer you become? As you reach for your pillow and get under the covers, read why catching some extra zzz’s will help shed some pounds.
When our bodies don’t get enough sleep (less than 7 hours of shut-eye a night) it tells our brain that we should reach for that extra helping of pancakes, and maybe that doughnut too. Sleep deprivation is directly related to an increase in calorie consumption that can lead to our jeans fitting a little tighter after a long weekend.
In a recent study, researchers looked at the connection between sleep and weight management. The more sleep the participants received every night, the more effective they were at losing those extra pounds.
To combat the urge to reach for those extra calories when you’ve been skimping on zzz’s, make sure to get 7-9 hours of sleep every night and follow these tips for easy sleeping.
1) Eat a variety of foods that are a healthy mix up of protein, carbs, vitamins and minerals to keep your body functioning the best during the day and at night.
2) Try an all natural sleep aid like Dream Water or Redd Remedies At Ease PM. Dreamwater contains GABA, Melatonin and 5-HTP which helps you relax and eases you into a restful nights sleep when taken 20-40 minutes before bed time, (the Snoozeberry flavor is also our all time fav!). Redd Remedies At Ease PM is a non-habit forming sleep aid that helps promote neurotransmitter balance, promote healthy brain function, calms nervous tension at bedtime and promotes restful sleep*.
3) Create a sleep friendly environment by turning off all your electronic devices half an hour before you plan on getting some shut-eye. The distractions from these devices can lead you to stay awake longer, and toss and turn all night.
