Let’s be honest. You get a boost of motivation to work out when your friend or significant other says, “Heck yes I’ll go workout with you!” So, what better way to boost your weight loss or fitness goals than to grab your BFF and head to the gym?
Having a friend next to you during your workout not only motivates you to keep going, but also makes the time go by faster. You can catch up on each other’s day-to-day life, strengthening your bond as you are running, bicycling, rowing, etc.
Researchers at Miram Hospital/Brown Medical School and University of Massachusetts Dartmouth found that people were more successful at their weight loss goals when their friends or significant others took part in the same program. Working out with someone who is on the same level or even at a higher level of fitness than you can strengthen your belief that you can accomplish the very same thing.
Here’s some things to keep in mind when picking an exercise buddy:
- Make a date– Make sure your schedules are similar and make a date to meet up to exercise. Talk about what activities you like to do, or wish to be better at and make it a goal to accomplish milestones by a certain date. Sign up for a race (link), lose a certain number of pounds, or achieve something you’ve never done before.
- Make a back up plan – If your partner can’t make it because of a late meeting, or a schedule change, make sure you’re both held accountable for getting the workout completed before the next time you see each other.
- Share the health – Love your Bulu Box subscription?
