We decided to ask our fellow Bulugans how they discovered all the products they found in their Bulu Box. The Bulugan to give us some insight on our August box was cancer survivor and health and happiness blogger Elyse of Run 2 Your Own Beat!
Monday: So today I had the CocoaVia cran-raspberry with my lunch. I usually try to stick to water, as opposed to other beverages, due to the fact that they’re either high in sugar or loaded with artificial sweeteners that end up being worse than the sugar itself. I was thrown off by the fact that this supplement is made from cocoa beans, yet doesn’t taste like chocolate at all. I’m aware that having one square of dark chocolate every day is good for cardiovascular health. I was surprised to find though, that the health benefits do not come from how dark the chocolate is, but actually come from cocoa flavanols – phytonutrients found in nature. Over time, the flexibility of arteries decreases, and become less able to expand when needed. Cocoa flavanols support the circulatory system by helping arteries maintain their flexibility with age, so you can feel and perform your very best. The cran-raspberry and summer-citrus were both great flavors – a little bit sweeter than I’m used to, so I just watered them down more. I haven’t tried the unsweetened and sweetened chocolate flavors yet, but it is recommended to put them in coffee, oatmeal, or smoothies. Overall, I’d rate this product a 4 out of 5.
Tuesday: I’ve had Burn Blend before, and I really liked it. I started my fitness journey in April with a goal of losing between 25 and 30 lbs. At the time I took it, I was about halfway to my goal. Burn Blend definitely helped me push past the plateau I was experiencing. I usually took it before a workout and felt like I had a lot of energy not only through my workout but throughout the day. I would recommend people take this if they are trying to lose 10 or more lbs. I took it for about a week before, and I noticed a significant difference in my weight by the end of the week. As with any thermogenic pill, definitely drink a lot of water with it and don’t take it at night! Overall, I’d rate this product a 3.5 out of 5.
Wednesday: Today was a pretty busy day for me – I had work in the morning, then several doctor’s appointments following. Good news though: I can get my port removed! I’m one step closer to being done with all this cancer nonsense and moving on with my life. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get my morning workout in today. So, my best friend/workout buddy and I went for a short run in the evening along with strength training. Since we were going at an odd time between lunch and dinner, I knew I needed some kind of pick-me-up so I wouldn’t feel hungry during my workout. I had the PowerBar Performance Energy Blend and it was a perfect quick snack that didn’t make me feel like I ate too much. It was also yummy too! Overall, I’d give this a 4 out of 5.
Thursday: Saying that I love TwinLab Power Fuel is an understatement. I typically don’t take pre-workouts, but after taking this one, I’m definitely going to buy it. Given that I’m in school this year and will most certainly have to make some of my workouts in the evening, I want to make sure that I have enough energy to perform at my best. Today was another day where I was unable to make my morning workout, and then got called into work last-minute. So, I took the pre-workout towards the end of my shift then did some abs and went right to spin class with my favorite instructor. It was a heavier class than she normally does, and it was one of my best mileage-wise and kCal-wise. I know the kcals on the bikes aren’t 100% accurate, but they give you a ballpark of how many calories you’ve burned. After spin class, we had a hamstring workout from Muscle & Fitness Hers Transformation Workout Plan. I felt able to do significantly more weight then I usually would do. After that, I did some more abs, and even after that, I still wanted to keep going! I stopped myself though so I wouldn’t overtrain. Overall, I would rate this product a 5 out of 5.
Friday: I’ve said it before in previous reviews, and I’ll say it again – I love Daily Burn! Some days I just feel like doing a little extra even after going to the gym, or I’ll feel like trying something new. Daily Burn is perfect for that. I like having the convenience of a group fitness class in my own home. Some of the programs I’ve done so far are Inferno (tough, but amazing!), Move! Bollywood, Yoga, and DB15 core. Today, I did a couple Daily Burn workouts. It was kind of supposed to be a rest day…but..oops! ;) I did KB in 9, Tabata 6, a little bit of Inferno Metcon, and Animal form. I figured I’d try something different that I’d never done before! Animal form was fun and a good workout – and you don’t need any equipment. The variety of programs at Daily Burn makes it a great fit for people at any fitness level. The trainers do a fantastic job of making you feel included, like they’re right there with you. Overall, I’d rate this product a 5 out of 5.
Saturday: Trying new post-workout protein products is sometimes hard for me because I’m kind of in love with Quest Bars, however, Garden of Life Raw Protein didn’t seem like a sacrifice once I tried it. I went for a 3 mile run today at the park, then headed to the gym for some chest and abs. I made a smoothie using Raw Vanilla Chai Protein, strawberries, powdered chocolate peanut butter, plain greek yogurt, a little milk, and ice. It was actually really good! It didn’t have any of that fake-sweet taste and was a yummy post-workout treat. It also feels great knowing that it’s USDA certified organic, vegan, gluten free, and dairy free. Overall, I’d rate this product a 4 out of 5.
Sunday: Today I took spin with my favorite instructor and did lots of abs. I’m a little anxious due to the fact that I go back to school tomorrow. It’s a new school, yet again, being that I’ve been at a different school each year of college so far, and I’m already behind due to having chemo and changing my major from theatre to nutrition. I felt an immense need to de-stress and clear my mind before beginning a hectic school year. I’m kind of freaking out about my workout schedule, staying on track with my healthy eating, & keeping up with my classes. I streamed Charlotte Dodson’s Relax & Calm yoga class . The website has a schedule much like a TV network, and for some classes Charlotte is available for real-time chat before, during, and after the classes. They are also available to stream (which is what I did), or purchase for download. Overall, I would rate this a 4 out of 5.
